This tool calculates a preliminary maximum unsupported distance between adjacent propeller-shaft bearings. It can also estimate whether one or more intermediate bearings may be required over a longer shaft installation.

Enter the maximum engine speed that the installation can reach.
For a 2.10:1 reduction, enter 2.10. Use the ratio for forward propulsion.
Enter the longest unsupported shaft span in millimetres to receive a direct pass/fail check.
Enter the total distance in millimetres to estimate the minimum number of unsupported spans and intermediate bearings. The estimate assumes that bearings can be positioned at approximately equal distances.

Important: This is a preliminary critical-speed calculation, not approval of a complete shaft installation. The result does not verify shaft diameter, propeller overhang, bearing load, bearing length, bearing clearance, water supply, alignment, thrust, coupling selection or hull structure. A self-aligning shaft seal or inner bearing should only be counted as a supporting bearing when its manufacturer confirms that it is suitable for this purpose in the specific installation.
